Warning!  Warning! Warning!  Warning! Warning!  Warning!

Cigarette smoke and gas from fluorescent lights are a deadly combination.

 Handle fluorecent lights with care.

Man combusts when a fluorescent tube broke in a smoke filled bathroom.

Mike was a student at a university in Montana.  He was a quiet man with no real family to speak of.  He worked in the university's maintenance department.

It was a cold night in October. Mike was working late changing fluorescent light bulbs in the administration building.  Sometime around midnight, he was about to start changing the lights in the men's bathroom.  Mike decided to take a break and have a cigarette.  Since it was late, nobody else was around, and cold outside, Mike figured he would just turn on the exhaust fan and smoke in the bathroom.  He didn't know that the exhaust vent was stuck shut.  Mike continued to work in the smoky bathroom.  Then, he slipped and dropped a box of lights.

A few hours later, Mike's supervisor came looking for him.  He went into the bathroom and found nothing but broken glass and ashes all over the room.  The supervisor had no way to explain Mike's disappearance.

Was it possible that the cigarette smoke mixed with the warm fluorescent gas caused a chemical reaction that reduced Mike ashes?

It has been said that every night at about midnight in October, you can still see the silhouette of someone working through the dimly lit window of the bathroom.

This is Where it all happened.

     The silhouette.
